“Because of my speech impediment, I didn’t have a normal high school and college experience. I often kept to myself, being afraid to expose my disability, which made it difficult to make friends. This not only affected my self-esteem, but my grades as well. I didn’t have any motivation or drive at all. I was often told by peers that I wasn’t smart enough and I wouldn’t succeed after high school.
“The true turning point in my life came after college. It was at this point that I sought help for my disability. I looked for and eventually found, a speech therapist named Gail Wilson Lew. This was the first time I had ever experienced another person who stutters. I was fascinated and had so many questions to ask her; How did you improve your stuttering? Can stuttering be passed on to your offspring? How is it caused? Not only did she answer my questions, but she helped me change the way I think about stuttering [and] as well as how I perceive myself. This truly changed my lifestyle and personality…”

“Gail helped me a lot and encouraged me to talk a lot so I could practice not stuttering. I felt calm when she would talk to me, she would also teach me things, and I always had a good time…”
